Our Township

On Behalf of the Township Board, Staff, and Commissions; welcome to Northfield Township.  We invite you to learn more about our government and organization structure by clicking on one of the links to the left.  As with any municipality, Northfield has changed over the years, both in terms of population and its physical appearance.   Occasionally, the Township Elected Board of Trustees has altered its structure and added new commissions to accommodate new ideas, new leadership and a new approach.

One major shift occurred during the 2013 Board of Trustees election; where the Treasurer, Supervisor and Clerk were voted in as part-time positions.  The Board of Trustees elected to transition the government structure from a full-time elected leadership to a Board of Trustees / Manager form of Government.  The Township Manager's function and role is to carry out the day-to-day administrative activities of Northfield Township and advise the board on key policy decisions.  This form of government, generally known as a council-manager form of government, is the most prevalent government structure in the United States according to the International City / County Management Association.
