Volunteer Opportunities

Current Volunteer Opportunities:

On-going - Senior Nutrition Program Volunteers:  Senior Lunches are served at the Community Center on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday each week.  Volunteers are always welcomed to help set-up for and serve the lunches, and to clean-up after.   Contact Tami at (734) 449-2295 or averillt@northfieldmi.gov.

On-Going - Meals-On-Wheels Drivers: We are working hard to get the Home Delivery portion of the Senior Lunch Program started. Our ONLY OBSTACLE is finding enough volunteer drivers to make the program run smoothly! Meals will be delivered on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record.  If you can spare a couple hours of your time on even one of these three days, and would like to make a difference in home-bound seniors’ lives, please let us know ASAP!  Contact Tami at (734) 449-2295 or averillt@northfieldmi.gov.

  • Community Garden Clean-Up - Saturday, May 6, 11:00 am to 3:00 pm
The Parks & Recreation Board is excited to invite you to join us for a community garden clean-up day! Our garden has been a source of pride, and we want to make sure it stays that way.

The Community Garden is located at 9142 Main St. (across from the Northfield Township Community Center).  The clean-up day will take place Saturday, May 6, 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. We will be cleaning garden beds, removing weeds, repairing old and assembling new boxes. As a thank-you for your time, food and beverages will be provided! Please sign-up no later than May 6 so we may have enough goodies on hand. Feel free to join any time between 11:00am-3:00pm that works for you!

This is a great opportunity to meet your neighbors, get some fresh air, and give back to the community. We encourage everyone to bring their own gloves and gardening tools if they have them. However, we will have some tools available for those who need them.

We hope to see you there! Let's work together to keep our community garden beautiful.  Click here to sign up. • County Clean-up Day – Saturday, June 24
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!  We rely on the help of volunteers to run a smooth event for the community!  Volunteers primarily help direct traffic and unload materials from resident cars. We provide volunteers with a t-shirt, snacks, drinks, and lunch.

Volunteers do not need to fill out the event registration to drop off materials at the event. However, volunteers do need to sign up for a shift to volunteer.  Click here to sign up to volunteer.
  • Play Path Rejuvenation – TBD
Over the past two winters, many of our painted Play Path games were scraped away during ice and snow removal efforts.  This spring we are planning to bring the Play Path back to its original glory!  In addition to repainting the sidewalk games, we will also be repairing the tic-tac-toe board that was previously damaged and replacing the Play Path entry sign near the elementary school.  More information will be posted as we set dates for repairs, prepping and painting.  If you would be interested in helping with the rejuvenation efforts, please contact Jennifer Carlisle in the township office.
  • Northfield Human Services Food Pantry
We offer volunteer opportunities for individuals, families or groups. Our new address is 9075 Brookside Drive in Whitmore Lake.  If you would like to join our team, please reach out to Ramona Meadows at northfieldshealthservices@gmail.com.
  • Kiwanis 4th of July Parade
Kiwanis Club of Whitmore Lake has started planning for the 4th of July Parade.  If you are interested in lending a hand, contact wlkiwanisclub@gmail.com
