COVID-19 Township Update

COVID-19 Township Update

Updated 3/23/2020

Northfield Township Residents and Neighbors,

Effective at the close of business Friday 3/13/2020 at 4:30PM, Northfield Township will be closing our lobby to the public until further notice.  Updates will be provided through our E-newsletter, on our website and on our Facebook page.  Please encourage your friends and neighbors to sign up for our E-newsletter so that we can inform as many people as possible about this ever evolving situation.

To limit social interactions, Northfield Township will be altering the staffing levels in our office until further notice.  We are doing this to not only ensure the health and safety of our office staff, but to also ensure the health and safety of our Police Officers and Fire Fighters due to the shared common spaces in our building.  Effective Monday, March 23, 2020, our office will be closed through April 13, 2020 per the "Stay Home, Stay Safe" Executive Order. Staff will be working from home whenever possible with limited access to voicemail and e-mail.  Please contact us by email whenever possible and we will get back to you as soon as we are able.  Contact information can be found on our website.

We will continue to take extra health and safety precautions and will be sanitizing common areas and work areas on a daily basis.  The Inner Lobby doors will be locked.  There will still be access to the 24-Hour Drop Box in the vestibule for any payments and/or paperwork to be deposited.  You can also mail items to:
Northfield Township
PO Box 576
Whitmore Lake, MI 48189

Phone: 734-449-2880
Fax: 734-449-0123

We kindly ask that if you can answer YES to any of the following questions, DO NOT enter the Public Safety Building and instead make phone contact with your health care provider:

  • Do you currently have a Cough?
  • Do you have a Fever?
  • Have you recently traveled?
  • Have you or anyone you have been in direct contact with tested positive for the COVID-19 virus?
  • Do you live with or have contact with anyone who would answer “yes” to any of the above questions?

MEETINGS:
At this time, the Northfield Township Board of Trustees will be holding their regular meeting on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 as scheduled.  The agenda does include a discussion about what the township's next steps should be, as well as establishing any necessary emergency procedures related to the virus outbreak.  This is an Open Meeting, however for the health and safety of everyone we are asking that you please stay home and watch the meeting from the comfort of your home on our cable channel Charter Channel 191 or on-line using our LIVESTREAM account

If there is a need to cancel any upcoming meetings or for any other updates, we will send notice through this E-newsletter, on our website and on our Facebook page.

COMMUNITY CENTER:
Due to the current state of emergency concerning the spread of the COVID-19 virus and in accordance with the preventative actions recommended by the Washtenaw County Health Department, the Northfield Township Community Center will be CLOSED effective immediately and will remain closed until further notice.

All classes and programs are cancelled indefinitely including the Senior Café Lunches. However, we are working with the Washtenaw County Office of Community & Economic Development to ensure that Meals on Wheels delivery continues for our citizens in greatest need.

The safety and well-being of everyone in our community is our priority, and we are committed to doing everything possible to help stem the tide of COVID-19 and protect our friends and neighbors.

Although the Community Center building will be closed, staff will be there until they are told that they need to be working from home. If anyone is in need, or even just needs someone to talk to, please feel free to CALL the Center at 734-449-2295. Staff is still there to help if and when they can. Updates pertaining to the Center closure will be posted on Facebook, Twitter, Nextdoor and the Northfield Twp. website.

The Police and Fire Departments are taking all necessary precautions when responding to calls as is recommended by the Washtenaw County Emergency Response Plan.  At this time, we will be closing our lobby to the public until further notice, however the administrative offices for the Police and Fire Department will be staffed and can handle your business by phone or e-mail.  The dispatch phone in the office vestibule is also available.  We will provide notice of any changes through this E-newsletter, on our website and on our Facebook page.
