Land Preservation Resources and Events

Although Northfield Township currently has no formal funding mechanism for land preservation, the LPC helps match residents with the Greenbelt Program of Ann Arbor and the Washtenaw County Natural Areas Preservation Program to protect qualifying properties within Northfield Township.

FREE Fall Colors Guided Hike 

A  Fall Colors Guided Hike is being offered free to the public on Saturday,  October 16, 2021 at Whitmore Lake Preserve, 1551 7 Mile Rd., Whitmore Lake, MI, (at 7 Mile Rd. and Nollar Rd). Participants will discover a variety  of fall colors throughout this beautiful 235-acre natural area in Northfield Township.

Three times are available:  
10:00 - 11:30 am – Family-friendly hike (15 spots available),led by Washtenaw County Naturalist, Shawn Severance

12:00 - 1:30 pm – Family-friendly hike (15 spots available), led by LPC volunteer, Julia Henshaw

2:00 - 4:00 pm – Longer hike, may not be suitable for young children (15 spots available), led by Washtenaw County Naturalist, Shawn Severance

Registration is available online on a first come-first served basis. The hike will take place  rain or shine, except in case of lightning or dangerous weather. Participants are asked  to arrive 10 minutes in advance so  hikes may begin on time.  

Details and Safety Considerations  

  • This event will follow recommended COVID-19 safety  precautions as outlined by the CDC and Washtenaw  County Health Department. 
  • There are no restrooms on site. 
  • Sorry, no dogs allowed. 
  • Bring your own water and snacks. 
  • Overflow parking available on Nollar Rd.
  • Trails are natural and unimproved so dress appropriately.
