Michigan laws changed in 2011 permitting wider use of fireworks. Fireworks are permitted on any given day of the week and throughout the year. The township of Northfield does not have a Fireworks ordinance. Therefore, state law applies to our township concerning the possession and use of fireworks. However, it is important to remember that Northfield Township does have other ordinances that are applicable to the use of fireworks; particularly the Noise Ordinance which states, in part:
"No person, firm or corporation, or other legal entity, shall cause or create any unreasonable or unnecessarily loud noise or disturbance, injurious to health, peace, or quiet of the residents and property owners of the township." (Excerpt from Section 10-83 (a) of the Northfield Township Noise Ordinance)
As it pertains to noise, the times outlined in the ordinance for quiet hours are generally
10:00pm - 7:00am. A violation of the Noise Ordinance can result in a Civil Infraction.
