Lt. Greene has been with the Northfield Township Police Department for twenty years. He graduated from Wayne County Regional Police Academy in 1990 and began his career as a police officer at Van Buren Township Department of Public Safety. He came to Northfield Township in 1991. He served four years as a road patrol officer and was then promoted to Sergeant. In 2009, he was promoted to Interim Police Chief while our department was in transition. He has now served for four years as a Lieutenant. Lt. Greene graduated from the School of Police Staff & Command and is also a trained Accident Investigator and Firearms Instructor.
SERGEANT MARTIN SMITH

Sgt. Smith has been with the Northfield Township Police Department for five years. He graduated from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice in 1987. From there he was hired as a police officer for Oak Park Police Department, where he worked for eighteen years. During his employment at Oak Park, he was a Field Training Officer for twelve years and an Investigator for five years. He retired from Oak Park in August of 2005. Sgt. Smith then came to Northfield Township in the fall of 2005, where he worked as a police officer until promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2009. Sergeant Smith is a Field Training Officer and Live Scan Coordinator for our department.

As the Director of Public Safety for Northfield Township, I want to welcome you to the Northfield Township Police Department’s website. This site is designed to provide residents and business owners with current information for Northfield Township area. When used on a regular basis, this website will assist in keeping the community informed and involved.
On this site, you will find many useful and informative items that will aid in keeping you informed regarding crime alerts, crime mapping and statistical information in each part of the township. We also have an extensive section on crime prevention.
I believe that this department’s overall service is determined by the community it serves and this community has shown it wants local, quality service. The level of support that we continuously receive from the community affords us the opportunity to provide quality police protection. Keeping our residents and businesses informed and involved goes hand-in-hand with our community policing philosophy. This department has also developed partnerships with other local law enforcement agencies that continue to enhance law enforcement efforts that cross jurisdictional boundaries.
