Northfield Township News

   We hope you’ve been enjoying this beautiful weather!  We sure are.  As the summer rolls along, the Township office continues to move our projects along.

Here’s what’s happening…

• New Faces!  In March, we hired our new Assessing Assistant, Mary Bird, and our new Deputy Clerk, Cristina Wilson.  They have been doing a fabulous job, and we are very happy to have them.  In addition, beginning in August, Lisa Bradford is our fresh face at the front desk.  If you haven’t met them yet, come on over and say hi!  At the Community Center, our Senior Nutrition Program Assistant started in July.  Amber Barsegian is a familiar face around the Community Center as she has been a volunteer there for a while.  We’ve had great fun with her as a volunteer, and are excited to have her join the team.
• The Board of Trustees welcomes Beckett & Raeder, Inc. as our new Planning Consultants.  Beckett & Raeder is a well-established Planning firm from Ann Arbor, and we look forward to working closely with them to make Northfield Township the best community it can be.
• Starting in November, you will notice a small change on your Sewer Bill.  We heard from many of our residents saying that they were receiving their sewer bills late, in some cases just a few days before or even after they were due.  In July, the Township Board approved an extended collection period for payment before a late fee is added on.  This will go into effect with the November billing.  (Please note, all charges and fees will remain the same.)
• The planning phase for the completion of the non-motorized path is underway.  There have been a few bumps along the way, but we’re looking at starting construction on this final phase of the path next spring/summer.
• Progress is continuing with the sidewalk funded by our Community Development Block Grant, with construction tentatively scheduled to begin in early spring.  The sidewalk will run along Main Street, beginning at the Westbrook Apartment Complex, and ending across from the Middle School.  It will include a marked Crosswalk to provide safe pedestrian crossing at the school.
• You may have noticed the cameras going up along US-23.  Preparation is beginning for MDOT’s Active Traffic Management Project.  The Environmental Analysis has been completed and they are now in the Design phase.  The design work is expected to be completed by the end of next year, with construction beginning late 2016/ early 2017.  This will include widening of the shoulders on US-23, and ramp and bridge repairs/replacements throughout the Township.
• The Board approved the contract between People’s Express and Northfield Township.  Service to our residents for reduced rates will begin in September.  Please contact People’s Express for schedules and pricing at 877-214-6073.
• The Senior Nutrition Program continues to provide their Congregate Meals at the Community Center serving healthy, well-balanced, and delicious meals three days a week. Meals are served on Monday, Wednesday & Friday for seniors aged 60 or over beginning at 12:15p.m. Please call 24 hours in advance so we can get your meal ordered, or for more information: Tami 734-449-2295.
